Stop Using Top Loaders for Your Expensive Cards
Pokemon cards I'm about to say something controversial: top loaders are overrated. There, I said it. Go ahead, flood my DMs. I used to swear by them. Penny sleeve plus top loader equals protected, right? Wrong. Here's what I learned after grading 500+ cards. Top loaders scratch cards. The rigid plastic edge can micro-scratch your card when you slide it in. I've lost potential PSA 10s to this. They don't fit extension artwork — if you're collecting modern Pokemon cards with bleed art, top loaders literally cut off part of the design. For my valuable cards (anything over $50), I switched to magnetic one-touch holders. No insertion friction — the card just sits there. Perfect for extension art — the full card is visible. Stackable and displayable. At GemMintSleeve.com, we make sleeves and holders specifically for modern Pokemon cards. Our Magnetic One-Touch Holders ($24.99/25) are for my $100+ cards. Top loaders aren't bad — they're just not optimal for modern collecting. Once you try magnetics for your hits, you won't go back.
